What a treat we have for Boxing Fans this weekend, instead of a single classic fight we have the CLASSIC TRILOGY of all time in my view.
The three fights between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward are without doubt the most memorable trilogy in the history of our sport, even more memorable than the classic Ali-Frazier trilogy.
They first fought on May 18, 2002, at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, Gatti’s record was 34-5 and Ward’s was 37-11.
Neither man had a perfect record or come to that was a perfect fighter, but two tougher fighters would be hard to find, as proved by the fantastic trilogy that excited the World back in the noughties.
on November 23, 2002, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City was rammed to the rafters.
For the first time since the 1980s, Atlantic City’s flagship arena was sold out for a fight, as Ward-Gatti II promised boxing fans the spectacle of two outstanding throwback fighters in a throwback rematch.
The final fight of the trilogy took place on the 7th June 2003 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Those in attendance watched yet another classic fight between these two warriors, one that would later become the 2003 Ring Magazine ‘Fight of the Year’
