Before a full house at the Rubén Zayas Coliseum for the number one spot in the World Boxing Association (WBA) at 105 pounds, former world champion, Wilfredo 'Bimbito' Méndez (19-3- 1, 6 KO), from Trujillo Alto, defeated the Californian Jesús Haro (11-2, 1 KO) via unanimous decision in a duel where the organization's GOLD belt was also at stake.
The judges' votes were: 118-110, 116-112 and 117-111 in favor of the Puerto Rican.
“About three and a half years ago, I didn't fight 12 full rounds and I felt good. My opponent was very uncomfortable because we already know each other and he is short, but he fought even shorter to avoid body blows that, thank God, I was able to land several to secure my rounds,” said Méndez.
“My goal is to give Puerto Rico its sixth world champion and then unify with whoever is available. I want to thank Haro for agreeing to come to Puerto Rico and have a great fight in front of my people, I appreciate it and I hope that in the future he can fulfill his dreams,” said Méndez.
The WBA world champion is the Thai Thammanoon Niyomtrong (24-0, 9 KOs), who of his 24 fights, 23 have been in Thailand.

In an exciting fight, Omar 'La Mamba' Pacheco (0-0-2), from Trujillo Alto, and Antonio Mota (1-0-1), from Toa Baja, ended in a 4-round draw. The judges scored: 39-37 Pacheco, 38-38 (x2).
In the 'Fight of the Year 2023' rematch, Luis Joel Quiles (2-0, 1 KO) from Cidrez defeated former national champion Jeremis Hernández (1-2), from Trujillo Alto, by knockout in the second round, in a 4-round fight. at 115 pounds.
In an entertaining junior lightweight fight, Jan 'El Pescador' Pomales, from Trujillo Alto defeated Ángel 'El Mexicano' Rosado, from Canóvanas by majority decision. 39-37 Pomales, 38-38 and 39-37 Pomales.
In the super bantamweight, Alexander 'Rayito' Rivera, from Bayamón, defeated Jenn González, from Nicaragua, via unanimous decision in a 6-round fight. Votes: 60-54 (x3).

In the welterweight, debutant Jesús Vázquez, from San Lorenzo, looked impressive by knocking out Oscar Adorno, from Vega Alta, in the first round.
