Ring Magazine’s 2018 “Fight of the Year” featured Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in a rematch following their scintillating draw that had taken place a year previously.
Taking place in front of a sell-out crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the two best middleweights in the world really went for it hammer and tongs.
Both protagonists found their range early and mega shots were thrown, and landed, virtually ever second of each and every round.
Either man could easily have been knocked out, but somehow they stayed on their feet and battled through each of the 12-rounds.
The judges scores, Glenn Feldman 114-114 – Dave Moretti 115-113 and Steve Weisfeld 115-113 handed the fight this time to Alvarez, much to the dismay of many, who thought GGG had done enough to secure the contest.
We can only hope that a a defining third fight is made in the near future to settle this.
